Chapel of St. Rosalia, Gúta

It is located opposite the main entrance of the former Catholic cemetery, and its orientation is north-east. ; One of my elderly female informants said the following about the chapel: ; … and then they call it Rozália, because it was also built by a rich man who had a lot of wealth. So his wife was probably Rozália, that's what I heard…(2) ; In the list of monuments of Slovakia, the chapel is described as follows: "A cemetery Baroque chapel from the 1850s with a later 19th-century turret. A smaller, elongated sacral building with a semicircular arch closure and a volute gable. A dentate cross vault, its keystone with a concha and lunette. Its facades are divided by half-columns, the superstructure part of their cornice heads leads to the roof cornice. In the middle of the volute gable is a niche with a sculpture of the Virgin Mary. Behind the segmented gable rises a columnar roof turret with shuttered sound openings" (Koncsol 2003, 61). ; Opposite the entrance in the chapel is an altarpiece depicting Saint Rosalia. The oil painting depicts Rosalia praying at the entrance to the cave. On both sides of the altar there is a porcelain angel, next to them a vase of artificial flowers, a white candle in a copper candlestick. On the left side of the picture we find a painting depicting Jesus, on the right side we find the Virgin Mary. On the left side of the chapel, on the wall, a crucifix can be seen. Pews have been placed on both sides of the chapel. The chapel itself is in very poor condition. Its walls are damp, the paint is peeling, which is clearly visible in the pictures. On July 18, 1978, parish priest Imre Berkes applied to the District National Committee for the restoration of the chapel, attaching a detailed calculation to his application, according to which the renovation work to be carried out would require a total of 57,826,- Kčs. Since it is a monument, the District National Committee granted permission for the restoration until the end of 1978 under strict conditions.1 ; Between 1996 and 1998, the chapel was restored again. The costs were covered by the Kromberg &amp, Schubert company, based on an agreement with the city administration. ; According to one of my female informants, three masses were held in the chapel on All Souls' Day until the end of World War II (3). A few years after the change of regime, services were held again on All Souls' Day in the chapel (4). Today, the chapel is only opened for celebrations related to March 15 and August 20 (which are held by the city administration next to the chapel) in order to obtain electricity for the sound system.
