Statue of Saint Urban in Szentendre
Sacral small monument
The Cellar Row, which is the oldest quarter of Szenc, begins in the immediate vicinity of the church. The Cellar Row leads to the Vineyard Hill. The vineyard here was guarded by the statue of Saint Urban, which was made in the Baroque style. ; Saint Urban I (Latin: Urbanus), (2nd century – May 23, 230) was the 17th Pope, reigning from 222. ; He held office during the reign of the peaceful emperor of the Roman Empire, Alexander Severus. He was probably born in Rome, and Eusebius also mentions him in his historical work. Apart from this, however, we know little else about Urban I. ; The Breviary of the Catholic Church writes that Urban I made significant efforts to spread the religion, thus converting many people. These included Valerian, the husband of Saint Cecilia, and his own brother, Tiburtius. ; From the same source we know that Orbán I probably died a martyr's death and was buried in the Coemeterium Praetetutan. ; Orbán is a saint of both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches. His feast day is celebrated on May 25. He is revered as the patron saint of grapes, winegrowers, coopers, and innkeepers. The cold on Orbán's Day is most harmful to grapes. According to folk tradition, if Orbán protected the crop from frost, the farmers treated his statue to wine, but if they suffered frost damage, they beat him with a stick.
