Statue of Saint Urban

The statue of Saint Orbán by János Lukács is located in the courtyard of the Granárium manorial granary and wine cellar at the headquarters of the Gömör-Tornai Saint Orbán Wine Knights. The Granárium was built in the 17th century and functioned as the tithe-collecting cellar of the Eszterházy family's Szádvár estate until the mid-19th century. Currently, the building functions as accommodation and a guest house, where guests can taste unique oven-baked dishes and special local wines. The wines are presented by members of the Gömör-Tornai Saint Orbán Wine Knights. Since the Wine Knights are named after Saint Orbán, the president of the order, Lóránt Pápai, asked János Lukács to create the statue so that it would reflect the uniqueness of the place. The patron saint protects local winemakers and helps them in their work, so that their grape harvest is the best every year and their wines are the most delicious and flavorful.
