St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church
Building, structure
The Church of St. Nicholas has undergone several renovations over the centuries, the oldest, Gothic reconstruction, can certainly be dated back to before 1326. A valuable part of the entire cultural monument is the Calvary, parts of which were built into the approximately one-meter-high concrete wall surrounding the church and the church hill. The wall dates from the years 1915-1927. ; The church in its current form was built in the second half of the 18th century in the Baroque style. The town's parish was first mentioned in 1308. The first church was probably built of wood. The church was first mentioned in 1326, originally built in the early Gothic style, and rebuilt in 1561, 1633 and 1740. It was also renovated in the 19th and 20th centuries. Its four altars are dedicated to Saint Nicholas, Queen of the Rosary, King Saint Ladislaus and Saint Therese. The statues of the Calvary were made in 1934, and below it is a beautiful Lourdes grotto. The Holy Sepulchre altar dates from 1867, and according to the inscription on the upper edge, it was made with a donation from the widows of Rozál Szalay and Therese Királyi. The special feature of the four and a half meter high and four meter wide altar is that it is decorated with nearly fifty thousand pieces of cut crystal glass and pearls. ; Since 2013, the church, the wall surrounding the church, the Calvary and the Virgin Mary Chapel have also been classified as national cultural monuments.
