Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Osgyán
Building, structure
The Roman Catholic church of Osgyán, dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, was built between 1768 and 1774. ; In 2009, news spread that the crypt of the Roman Catholic church in the village of Osgyán contained the remains of Julianna Korponayné Géczy, the only woman in Hungarian history to be beheaded for treason. ; Ten coffins, demonstrably dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, were found in the cavity under the altar. ; Based on the remains of clothing, one of the coffins contained a female skeleton, the skull separated from the rest of the body. ; The parish priest, who knew the history of Osgyán very well, began to suspect that the unmarked coffin might contain the body of Julianna Korponayné Géczy. ; In the summer of 2009, the staff of the Spiš Museum in Levoča took samples from the skeleton, the coffin and the clothing, based on which they wanted to scientifically prove that the remains in the crypt date back to the beginning of the 18th century. ; The experts came to the final conclusion that the remains of the White Woman of Levoča certainly do not rest in the crypt of the Roman Catholic church in Osgyán. The samples taken from the coffin and the clothing proved that the remains in the crypt are those of the Bakos and Luzsánszki families.
