Roman Catholic Church dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian

Building, structure

The church of Szécsényke was destroyed during the Turkish period and rebuilt in 1754 by the Koháry family. It was renovated in 1773 and consecrated by Pál Esterházy in 1778. According to tradition, the church was intended to be built in another part of the settlement in the Middle Ages, but the stones that were brought together miraculously ended up in the current location every morning. (Mária Kovácsné Benőc 1913, and Sándor Molnár 1911, 1992) A miraculous spring gushed here. The sick person who prayed to the martyrs Saints Cosmas and Damian at this spring and drank from the spring water or washed his sick body part with it was cured. The spring later dried up, but its place remained for a long time.
