Wooden statue of King St. Stephen

At the initiative of Kossuth Prize-winning artist Gyula Szarka from Nádszeg, the representative body of the Nádszeg local government and the Nádszeg Saint Stephen King Civic Association announced a public donation for the erection of a statue of the founder of the state, Saint Stephen King. The sculptor Róbert Smídt from Szógyén was asked to create the statue. The monumental, more than four-meter-high statue was unveiled in 2017.
The statue was consecrated by canon Róbert Kiss, episcopal vicar, László Elek
, parish priest of Nádszeg, and Ferenc Juhos SVD/Verbite Father/, parish priest of Köröm, and Imre Juhos, also a native of Nádszeg, spiritual father, spiritual director of the Győr seminary.
The sculpture, made by the valiant woodcarver Róbert Smídt and donated by the public, depicts the founding king in full life size. The work, made of two hundred-year-old oak, stands on a pedestal weighing several tons.
The gilded inscription “Saint Stephen, be with us!” can be read on the pedestal of the headstone.
