Statue of King St. Stephen

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

The three-meter-high, carved oak sculpture was placed in the square in front of the Roman Catholic church. The ceremonial inauguration of the statue took place on August 19, 2013, after the Holy Mass. The statue has a very low pedestal with the inscription: SANCTUS STEPHANUS REX; The erection of the statue was the idea of József Mahulányi, the deacon of Ipolyság. The costs were covered by the construction contractor László Barna, who lives in Patak, Hungary. The statue was made by Dr. Károly Kernács, a retired doctor from Kosd and an amateur woodcarver. The statue was completed in two and a half months. Unfortunately, the artist passed away shortly after the creation of the work.
