Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Barsendréd

The Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Nagyendréd was first mentioned in the 13th century. ; A document from 1286 already mentions two Endréds, one of which is mentioned as a "church", so there was already a church here. This is probably Nagyendréd. In 1332, the patron saint was still the Virgin Mary. The church in Kisendréd was built in 1370. ; In 1626, most of the residents fled the village from the oppression of the Turks. ; After the expulsion of the Turks, László Szobonya and his family built the church in Nagyendréd. It was renovated in 1725, but burned down again in 1770. In 1753, the originally Gothic church was rebuilt in Baroque style. The Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Nagyendréd received its current form in 1810 - at that time without a tower. ; In 1899, a new organ was brought to the church in Nagyendréd, from there the old organ was taken to the church in Kisendréd. In 1911, with the powerful help of Mrs. Dombay Vilmosné, born Erzsébet Balogh, a new reinforced concrete tower was built for the church in Nagyendréd. At that time, the church was completely transformed, it received exterior and interior painting, the murals were renovated, the roof structure and the roofing eternit were replaced. The architect Kálmán Hübschl from Vác was responsible for the works at that time. ; New bells were brought to the church of St. Andrew in Nagyendréd in 1923, which were consecrated in November. The interior painting of the church and the renovation of the murals were in 1936, and then for the last time in 1984. In 2000, the external plaster was renewed. In 2007, the roof structure was repaired and the roof covering was replaced. The sacristy, built in 1842, was not properly insulated and its walls were constantly damp, so in 2005 it was demolished and a completely new room was built. ; The Slovak Monument Protection Office declared the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Nagyendréd a national cultural monument in 2016.
