Archbishop György Széchenyi of Esztergom elevated Érsekújvár to city status in 1691. Some people associate the founding of the city itself with this event. ; The memorial plaque was placed on the wall of the Franciscan monastery on the 300th anniversary of the event. It was created by sculptor János Nagy.
