Major General Géza Szathmáry was the commander of the Gyula Defence Regiment (2nd Regiment) as a colonel in the First World War. His name became famous during the Great War when he rushed out of the besieged Przemysl Castle at the head of his defence forces on March 19, 1915. His saying became a byword: "Everyone after me, no one before me!" The heroic colonel, who led his soldiers into the attack armed only with a light walking stick, was wounded and taken prisoner by the Russians, from where he only returned home at the end of 1917 with damaged health. Despite this, he immediately reported for service and was soon promoted to general. ; He died on September 27, 1925.
