Headstone of János Stampay

Literary

János Stampay was born in Léva in 1864, and in 1891 he moved to Köbölkút, where he was elected as a cantor teacher and school director. From then on, he worked in Köbölkút until the end of his life - he died in 1960. One of his first tasks after his appointment was to establish a choir, but his work also included organizing theatrical performances and evenings, acquiring an organ for the church and a harmonium for the school. He also dealt with woodcarving, and taught children to do this. His literary and socio-pedagogical works have also survived, but his most famous work is the prayer book - Kath. Egyházi ének, imák és funétis szeritársok - which, after its first publication in 1895, went through forty-two editions until 1944. It was authored by two popes, XIII. Leo and Pius X both made him worthy of honor. ; ; &nbsp,
