"Irma Spányi, a singer, was born in Bratislava in 1860. Her father, Károly, a lawyer and a major in the 48th Hungarian Army, died on April 16, 1886. Irma received her first training under the patronage of Baroness Kray-Wenckheim, and then she was taught by the National Theatre in Vienna, by Mrs. Adél Passy-Cornet. She was a viola player, but she also conquered the mezzo-soprano height as Pamina ("The Magic Flute"), making her debut at the National Theatre on August 17, 1880. After a few years of contract, we only saw her as a guest at the Hungarian Royal Opera House: from September 18 to December 1, 1887. ; Roles: Maffio Orsini ("Lucrezia Borgia"), Amneris ("Aida"), Queen of Sheba, Azucena ("Troubadour"), Fides ("Prophet"), and 1888. Sept. 20.- Oct. 7.: Recha ("Jewess"), Fides, Ortrud ("Lohengrin"). Then she sang in Germany, England, Italy and France, already in December 1886 in Trieste, in April 1887 in the Scala in Milan, in July in Covent Garden in London, in January 1888 in Genoa, in April in Bologna, in December in Parma, in the spring of 1889 in Rome, in Moscow and St. Petersburg in 1890-91 she sang at the Panaje Theater, in November in Covent Garden in London, in 1892 in Italy, in October 1894 in Turin, on March 8 and 12, 1898 she was a guest of the M. Kir. Opera, (Amneris and Carmen) came from Italy at this time. In 1899, she sang Brangaene (Tristan et Iseult) at the Nouveau Théâtre in Paris. She was forced to decline an invitation from the Metropolitan Opera in New York for family reasons. After her singing career, she returned to Bratislava. Her autobiographical writings were published in 1926. ; Spányi's sister Irma Lenke, (born in 1864) also performed the sinitanode. On September 27 and 29, 1883, she was a guest at the People's Theatre [Elza (Furcsa háboró) and Broniszlava (Koldusdiák)], becoming the first female singer in the region: in 1883 in Szeged, with Vince Nagy, in the summer season in Nagyvárad, in 1884 in Debrecen, with Gerő Aradi, then with Krecsányi, in 1886 in Arad, where On Oct. 4, 1887, he ended his life with his own hand due to disappointment in love. Sándor Somló bid him farewell." ; The remains of Irma Spányi and her parents rest in sector I/2 of the cemetery.
