Memorial plaque of György Schulpe

György Schulpe's memorial plaque is located on the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association - YMCA) building, built in 1921 and now a listed building. The plaque in German and Hungarian is hidden almost unnoticed in the shadow of the storm drain pipe, which is perhaps why it is still in place. ; ; He completed his secondary school studies in Bratislava and abroad, then settled in Bratislava, where he dealt with social policy studies and labor issues. He was the initiator and founder of workers' housing. He wrote more than 400 articles about this and organized readings, free schools and theatrical performances for workers. On his initiative, more than 700 model workers' housing were built in Bratislava, which was a pioneering enterprise and significantly contributed to the industrialization of the city. A church, library, school and hospital were also built on the workers' settlement. ; He submitted his own proposal to the Hungarian government in the interests of economic and industrial workers. Between 1890 and 1898, he traveled to almost all the countries of Europe, dealing with social studies.
