Eagle Street Monument

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

In 1849, there were two battles between the imperialists and the Hungarian freedom fighters on the border of the village. The memory of this is preserved by the monument moved to the end of Sas Street, and the obelisk erected in honor of the fallen heroes in the cemetery. ; This monument originally stood in the border section behind the end of the street. Its former description: “The monument is a black, cast iron, approximately five-meter-high memorial statue, on the south side of which an officer’s belt with a double tassel hanging from a sword covered with a shield, and above it a five-pointed baronial crown can be seen, while on the top of the statue from the south an eagle’s claw holds a wreath, with this inscription on the north side: “Hier starb Gustav Feriherr von Geramb k.k. Oberstleutenant der gränz banal Regimentes am 13. Jänner 1849. an der Spitze seines Battalions seinem Kaiser und der Fahne getreu den Heldentod.” (Lieutenant Colonel Baron Gustav von Geramb died here on January 13, 1849, leading his flag, loyal to his emperor and his flag, dying a heroic death.)
