Károly Santhó was born on July 28, 1818 in Zselíz. He was a descendant of an ancient Hungarian noble family. He completed his elementary and high school education in Esztergom. He studied humanities and theology in Nagyszombat from 1835, then in Esztergom. He was ordained a priest on July 23, 1842, and then he was a chaplain in Lekér for four years. In 1846, he was invited to the editorial office of Religion and Education, where he mainly edited Literatúrai Lapok (a supplement to Religion) and reviewed Hungarian, Latin, Italian, German and French works. He was elected secretary of the Good and Cheap Book Publishing Company (now the Saint Stephen Company), which was founded in early 1848. In early January 1849, he accompanied Prime Minister Lajos Batthyányi, Ferenc Deák and Archbishop József Lenovics of Eger, as a member of the peace delegation sent by the parliament, to the Austrian camp in Bicske. He imprisoned Károly Santho at Windischgräz. He was soon released as an innocent man. Due to his deteriorating health, he resigned from his position as secretary. In 1850, he became a chaplain in Tardoskedd, then from 1851 in the city center of Pest, where he worked for 13 years. In 1864, he became vice-rector and spiritual director of the Emericanum in Bratislava, as well as a preacher of the Royal Academy of Law, then a judge of the Holy See in Nagyszombat, and an honorary canon in Esztergom. On February 12, 1888, he became a real canon of Bratislava. He died on October 21, 1906 in Bratislava. ; The grave of Károly Santhó can be found in Sector II of the cemetery.
