Frigyes Rösch, Sopron fire chief, high school teacher, honorary citizen of Sopron, was born on January 8, 1832 in Reutlingen (Germany). ; He completed his secondary school education in his hometown and his university education in Stuttgart. As a young man, he taught as a high school teacher in German cities. He worked in Felsőlövő from 1853 as a high school teacher, and then for two years as the director of a teacher training institute. Together with the citizens of Sopron, he initiated the establishment of a gymnastics club in the city in 1863. In that year, the club's gymnastic team began its professional physical training and gymnastics exercises. On April 26, 1866, the Sopron Gymnastics and Firefighting Association was officially established, the first in our country. He declared: "Only a good gymnast can be a good firefighter and vice versa." In 1868, Rösch also organized an association orchestra, which existed until 1875. ; In March 1867, he proposed the construction of a gymnasium, and on September 22, the country's first gymnasium was inaugurated in Paprét, Sopron. The founding meeting of the National Gymnastics Association was held in Pest on December 5, 1870, under the chairmanship of Rösch. On his initiative, a permanent fire brigade took care of the safety of the theater in our city from October 1868. It was his merit that the 2nd Hungarian National Firefighters' Festival was organized in Sopron between September 5-8, 1874. On January 30, 1887, Franz Joseph awarded the fire chief Frigyes Rösch with the Golden Cross of Merit with a crown. Rösch was a member of numerous charitable associations, a city representative and a church presbyter. In 1906, he received the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order for his work. On May 31, 1911, he was elected an honorary citizen of the city of Sopron. In June of that year, he resigned from the actual command, but held the honorary title of commander-in-chief for the rest of his life. He died on August 10, 1923, at the age of ninety-one, in Merény, Felvidék. ; The fire station in Sopron was named the Frigyes Rösch Fire Station. His memory is also preserved by a bust in the yard of the fire station. His memorial plaque, erected in 1991, can be seen on the wall of his former residential building, Új utca 13, Sopron. the text of the plaque: "Frigyes Rösch lived in this house, the commander of the Sopron Gymnastics and Firefighting Association, the first in our country, founded in 1866, and the tireless organizer of the Hungarian firefighting." ; ; Literary works: ; - Firefighters' Book (Sopron, 1870.
