Sculptor Alajos Rigele was born in Bratislava on February 8, 1879 and died there on February 13, 1940. His tomb can be found in Sector IV/4 of the St. Andrew's Cemetery. ; In 1895-1898 he worked for the decorative sculptor Adolf Messner in Bratislava. In 1901-1906 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1908-1911 he went on a study trip to Rome. From 1911 until his death he lived in Bratislava, where he created numerous portraits and tombstones, and his sculptures decorating the facades of various buildings are an integral part of the cityscape to this day. His sculpture is mainly characterized by the forms of academicism and neoclassicism. From 1931 until his death he was president of the Kunstverein. ; His main public works: ; 1914: Tombstone of Péter Pázmány (Dóm, Bratislava), 1925: Memorial to the first victims of World War II on the Murmann Heights (with architect Endre Szőnyi, Bratislava), 1935: building sculptures on the former town hall in Főrév, 1936: Memorial to Imre Madách (Alsósztregova), 1938: Nymph and Deer (Bratislava).
