Reformed Fortress Church

Building, structure

The church is an eastern, single-nave building with a straight-sided sanctuary and a tower on the western side. The church, located on a hill on the eastern edge of the settlement, is surrounded by a fortress wall. ; The origin of the church in the village of Szilice dates back to the end of the Árpád period. This is evidenced by the results of the wall excavation of the nave, during which Romanesque windows and the entrance were discovered on the southern side, which were beautifully restored by archaeologists. The thick fortress wall of the church was probably built during the Hussite period and also served well during the Turkish period. The loopholes on the circular wall are still there. The church was remodeled during the 19th century, but on the first floor of its tower it can be seen that the window in the western wall is a cannon loophole on the inside, which protects the gate of the stone wall. This window was rounded on the outside during the reconstruction.
