Rákóczi Monument
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
One of the most significant and oldest cultural monuments of Tardoskedd, located in the area of the new cemetery. On October 30, 1704, General Miklós Bercsényi sent 3 field letters from this place to Ferenc Rákóczi II., in which he reported to the prince about the state of war and the strategic plans necessary to defeat the Labanci. The bloody battles between the Kurucs and Labanci took place on the so-called "Rákóczi Hill", during which hundreds of Labanci lost their lives. Two years later, the monument was completed, which was intended to preserve the memory of the victorious battles. At first, the locals called it the Stone Statue, but only in the last few decades has it been named the Rákóczi Memorial. The cultural monument underwent a complete transformation in 2005, and since then it has been decorated with four carved reliefs: II. Portraits of Ferenc Rákóczi and Miklós Bercsényi, the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus, and the coat of arms of the village. The reliefs were made by sculptor Árpád Mézes.
