Sándor Petőfi had several personal connections to Komárom. He first visited the Jókai family in 1842.
In 2017, at the initiative of the then deputy mayor Imre Knirs, president of the Civic Association for a Better Komárom, and Tamás Arlett, president of the South Komárom Endresz Group, a statue of Sándor Petőfi was erected in Komárom. The work was created by the Csongrád sculptor couple, Györgyi Lantos and István Máté, and was unveiled by Sándor Lezsák, Tamás Arlett and Imre Knirs on September 22, 2017. The pedestal of the bust in Széna Square simply says: SÁNDOR PETŐFI.
