Statue of Alexander Petőfi

The 'most beautiful Petőfi statue' stands in Rimaszombat, the capital of Hungary. ; Miklós Izsó was commissioned to create the Petőfi statue in 1871. First, he made studies of the face and head, then in 'Talpra magyar' he developed the figure of Petőfi at a wedding. He first depicts him with his right hand raised, which later became the basis for the final realization. He then tried to depict him with his right hand placed on his chest. Due to Izsó's early death, the statue erected in Petőfi Square in Budapest was completed by Adolf Huszár. ; On May 29, 1845, Petőfi was elected an honorary judge in Rimaszombat - this was the poet's only public honor - and Miklós Izsó, who worked in the city alongside István Ferenczy after the War of Independence, was also buried on this day in 1875. The statue was donated to the city by the Petőfi Sculpture Committee in 1882, and the plaster model, which had been preserved for 120 years, was cast in bronze by sculptor Lajos Győrfi and foundry master Imre Varga, based on the initiative of historian István B. Kovács and Reformed bishop Géza Erdélyi. ; The plaster model of the work, considered one of the most beautiful Petőfi statues in the world and praising the work of Miklós Izsó, was preserved by the Gömör-Kishonti Museum for more than 120 years. Preparations for the erection of the statue began in August 2003, culminating in the inauguration ceremony on May 29, 2004. The statue was recreated by sculptor Lajos Győrfi, living in Püspökladány, in the workshop of bronze foundry master Imre Varga in Karcag. Originally, they wanted to erect it in the ornamental garden in front of the Tompa Mihály Reformed High School, but the co-owner of the plot, the Augustinian Evangelical Church of Rimaszombat, did not give its consent.
