The idea of creating the 48th memorial site in Nagykapos was put forward by the Erdélyi János Mixed Band. During the discussions, they decided to erect a monument to the poet of the War of Independence. The necessary support for the implementation was provided by the Bethlen Gábor Fund, so the Petőfi statue could be inaugurated on September 24, 2016. In the main square of Nagykapos, the prominent figure of the era reminds us of the Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49. ; Since 2017, locals have been laying wreaths at this statue in connection with the commemorations of the 1848/49 War of Independence.
