Petőfi Sándor memorial plaque in Rozsnyó
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
In 1845, Sándor Petőfi made a meaningful trip to the Highlands. His notes show that he got to know the beauties of the landscape, toured the sights of the region, especially the former castles. He visited his friends and dear acquaintances. The poet, who had become known in the summer of the previous year, may also have been motivated by the recruitment of an audience. The poet was received with love and celebration everywhere, and he too could have taken the region into his heart.. ; Everything we know about his three-month trip to the Highlands, which included 24 towns and castles, can be found in Petőfi's writing: Itineraries. He saw Rozsnyó this way: "I had to spend three days in Rozsnyó. Rozsnyó lies in a valley between high steep mountains, like the alms-kreuzar in a beggar's hat. Towards Aggtelek the road leads through a long, narrow valley to Pelsőcig. If this long, narrow and round valley of Rozsnyó were filled with something, it would form a giant jackass. Besides, it is a pleasant journey. This valley is also a huge national flag: red earth, white rocks, green forest." ; ; The memorial plaque made from public donations was inaugurated on the building of the former Black Eagle Hotel on October 6, 1992, organized by the Rozsnyó Regional Committee of the Csemads. Its creator was Árpád Mézes, a sculptor-restorer living in Zselíz.
