Memorial column of the Palóc Society

The memorial column of the Palóc Society was erected in the courtyard of the Mikszáth Kálmán Memorial House in the summer of 1999 (at that time it was in the other corner of the courtyard, during the renovation of the memorial house in 2006 it was moved to where it stands now, close to the entrance, in the garden in front of the house). The memorial column was made on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Palóc Society's establishment, the memorial column and the plaque on it are the work of sculptor Oláh Szilveszter. ; ; “After the establishment of (the memorial house), in the summer, enthusiastic Hungarian people living here on the Slovak side of the Ipoly would go there to mow the grass, plant flowers, and guide visitors… On a summer afternoon, after working around the memorial house, while frying bacon, the Palóc Society was founded. … on the tenth anniversary of its establishment, in 1999, we set up the memorial column where they agreed to establish the society while sitting around the fire.”
