Statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in the churchyard of Nagyfödémes
Sacral small monument
Saint John of Nepomuk (Czech: Svatý Jan Nepomucký), (Nepomuk, Bohemia, between 1340 and 1350 – Prague, March 20, 1393) is the patron saint of Bohemia. He is the patron saint of rivers, bridges, sailors, water millers, and fishermen. He is considered a martyr of the secret of confession. In some places, he is the patron saint of drowning, miners, and salt miners. Over time, churches and chapels have been dedicated to him in several salt mines and settlements related to salt mining, and statues have been erected, and even a mine in Aknasugatag has been named after him. ; In 1862, the residents of Nagyfödémes erected a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in memory of the devastating flood. One stands in front of the hospital-poor house and indicates that the water reached that far during the aforementioned flood. The other statue stood at the foot of the bridge over the Erecs River that runs through the village until 1958. Since the Lutheran church and rectory were located in nearby buildings in the years following World War II, the statue was placed in the garden of the Roman Catholic church by agreement.
