Statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Ipolyvisk

Sacral small monument

East of the church, in the park next to the main street, on the bank of a small drainage ditch, stands one of the most popular statues of the saint along the Ipoly River. The colored sandstone statue was probably made at the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century. It resembles some Nepomuk statues in the area, such as those in Felsőtúr, Egeg, Gyerki or Kemencei. However, its column is not as ornate as the ones mentioned. It is a tall rectangular work with a stepped capital standing on a concrete base surrounded by a wrought iron fence. There is no decoration on it. The large statue and its coloring are quite worn out by now. The collar on the saint appears to be bluish, while this one has a white collar with a laced bottom. A black beret was placed on the head of Saint John of Nepomuk, and a short grayish-red cloak was placed on his shoulders. In his hand is the attribute, the large-corpus stone crucifix.
