Statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Deáki
Sacral small monument
The monograph published in the series "Bookstore of a Hundred Hungarian Villages" of the Deák municipality states that the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was made by sculptor Kálmán Klinda, who was a resident of the municipality for a few years. (In the text, the name is incorrectly given as "Kálmán King"). ; If we compare the statue with other depictions of Saint John of Nepomuk, we can discover some peculiarities. For example, Saint John's clothing here is slightly different from that used elsewhere. The clothing corresponds to the priestly attire of the early 20th century. Above the cassock and the chasuble, the symbol of priestly power is placed, the stole, on which the symbols of the Catholic Church can be seen. The sculptor also placed emphasis on symbolic references. The lower edge of the chasuble, which flutters in the wind, is reminiscent of the scallop shell (and through it, the pilgrim life, the pilgrimage). The buttons of the chasuble are also clearly visible. The thirty-three buttons are reminiscent of Jesus' earthly life.
