Statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in the cemetery
Sacral small monument
It is a rare settlement where there is more than one statue. There were probably two statues of St. John of Nepomuk in Apátújfalu because the village originally consisted of two settlements. The statue of St. John in the cemetery, which can now be seen in a small cave built next to the morgue, was originally in another part of the settlement. The old fire station once stood on the site of the current community center, and the statue was next to it. When it was demolished, the statue was also removed. It gathered dust in a warehouse for a long time, until it was renovated and taken to the cemetery. According to Jolán Molnárné Rimóczi (1935), this is the older statue, which "was in the attic of the syringe house", and had already stood when her mother was a girl (born 1909), and she "guarded" the statue for a while, that is, she looked after it. The design of the work made of colored stone, as well as the shape of the crucifix in the saint's hand, appear to be older than the work next to the church.
