Statue of Saint John of Nepomuk

Sacral small monument

"In contemporary documents we can read that the church in Varbó also had a relic of Saint John of Nepomuk. This is recorded in both the 1916 and 1945 inventory books. In the latter we read that there is a relic of Saint John of Nepomuk in the church with stones. However, the current parish priest of the village, Károly Buday, has not encountered this. All this is also interesting because the statue of the Prague saint stands in the churchyard. Before the war, it looked towards the Ipoly from a pedestal. During the fighting, its pedestal was hit. Later, János Fajcsík erected another image pillar, and the beautiful wooden statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, restored by László Bugyi, was placed in it. The colored statue presents the saint in the usual way. The crucifix in his hand is new. There is a marble tablet underneath. The saint ... recently faces the village, and the consecrations of fire and water are still performed in front of it today.
