Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in Kismácsédon

Sacral small monument

The depiction of Saint John of Nepomuk in Kismácséd is located in a small, square-shaped, brick chapel in the middle of the village, next to the Municipal Office building. The small building is covered by a gable roof, and the double cross can be seen on its facade. The statue is protected by an iron-barred door. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk can be seen in the interior. On the side walls, there are pictures placed on two sides next to the saint. On the right side of the saint is the Virgin Mary, and on the left is the image of Christ with the crown of thorns. It is known from the history of the village that the old Dudvág River once flowed through the area of today's Saint Margaret Square, so its position cannot be accidental. The new, current bed of the Dudvág River was built in 1905. Considering the geographical location of Saint John of Nepomuk, I came to the conclusion that the placement of the statue in a brick building may be from the later period, the late 19th century, early 20th century, while the presence of the saint's statue can be traced back to the 1750-70s. The presence of the statue in the presence of the left bank of the Dudvág River at that time, can be concluded that the saint served as a patron saint for the serfs and serfs of that time. The right bank of the Dudvág River was inhabited by the farming, peasant-farming people. The depiction of Saint John of Nepomuk gained relevance especially during the devastating plague epidemics a few years earlier, namely, many seriously ill patients were healed at the coffin of the Prague martyr.
