Nagyszombat Town Tower
Building, structure
This huge (57 meters) square tower was built in 1574 and cost 4690 gold forints. It only served as a fire tower from 1688, when a permanent residence was built for the tower keeper. The roof burned down in the great fire of 1683 and was rebuilt. The tower clock was built in 1729, with a chime marking the quarter and full hours, a sundial on the southeast side, and a gilded statue of the Immaculate Conception on the top of the Baroque dome.
