Pietà sculpture group in Nagyszombat
Sacral small monument
The sculpture group was commissioned by Eleonora Theresia Karaffi in 1767. According to legend, the miraculous healing of the petitioner was the reason for the creation of the work. ; At the center of the work is the figure of the Virgin Mary, who appears here both as a mother holding her dead son in her arms (Pietà) and as the Virgin of Seven Sorrows. The light of the twice seven daggers forms a halo behind Mary. ; The figures of the sculpture group: ; Saint Sebastian, ; Saint Rókus, ; Saint Joseph, ; Saint Francis Xavier, ; Saint Rosalia. ; The sculpture group was restored by sculptor Pavol Čambál in 2004.
