Nagymegyer roadside cross
Sacral small monument
A wayside cross (lat. crux viator), a roadside cross: a stone, wooden cross (or tin, sheet metal cross) erected along the road at borders. Its role in daily practice is to help with orientation by indicating the end/beginning of geographical regions. This was probably the role of the Nagymegyer roadside cross standing next to the Cicsó road. We do not know the year it was erected. The Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the changing date of Holy Thursday are called by both the church and the people as the procession days. On these days in May, the faithful, led by their priest, march in procession with crosses and flags to one of the crosses on the border, amidst the ringing of bells, in memory of Christ leading his disciples to the Mount of Olives. This is indicated by the years 1940, 1986, 2006, 2010 on the cross. ; The cross was renovated in 2016. The years 1940, 2016 are indicated on it.
