St. Nicholas Church of Nagymegyer

In the second half of the 19th century, significant changes took place in the life of the Roman Catholic community, the largest religious community in Nagymegyer. The condition of the Roman Catholic church continued to deteriorate by the end of the 19th century, so it was demolished. The construction of the new church was undertaken by the representative of the count family living in the Csicsó castle, Princess Adalheidis-Sabran Pontevés of Köröspataki Kálnoki in memory of her deceased son Henrik and her husband Prince Sabran Pontevés. The foundation stone of the church was laid on February 8, 1899. The eclectic-style building was consecrated on October 28, 1900. After the consecration of the new church, it needed restoration within a short time. The reconstruction of the church ceiling was carried out in 1912. After the completion of the works, the second consecration of the church took place.
