Nagymegyer, street scenes in 1939

According to the 1st Vienna Decision of 2 November 1938, Csallóköz - and thus Nagymegyer - was annexed to Hungary again. In 1939, Nagymegyer had 4,644 inhabitants. In the first half of 1939, the national flag was raised in the main squares of the settlements in the re-annexed areas in a ceremonial setting. In Nagymegyer, this national flag was ceremonially inaugurated on 4 June 1939. The picture below is a monument inaugurated in Heroes' Square in November 1938 in memory of the heroic dead of World War I. On both sides of the picture, the two churches of the city can be seen, on the left side the Reformed church (built in 1795), and on the right side the Catholic church (built in 1900).
