Pál Nagy was born on February 16, 1928, in Felsővámos. He is the son of Vilmos Nagy, the former principal of the Felsővámos elementary school. The family was deported to Hungary in 1947, from where he defected in 1956 and lives in Montreal, Canada. He wrote about his life in his book, Memories from Vámosfaluból. His memorial plaque and oak tree were made at his request in the early 1990s with the collaboration of Aladár Bugár, Tibor Madarász and Pál Szabó, and the plaque was carved by Tibor Török, a stonemason from Felsővámos. ; He was inaugurated as an honorary citizen of Felsővámos in the early 2000s.
