Nightshade
Say
Note: ; Among the pastures in the area, Nagy-hegy was known to be a pasture with little water, and people used to drink from the wells at the bottom of the mountain. In Nógrád county, it is also known that “if you dig up the root of the nightshade at midnight, dry it, break it and give it to someone in milk or water, they will run around for a full 24 hours....” (Benkóczy Emil, 1905. 103.). Knowing the hallucinogenic effect of the plant, it was often used for pranks or revenge, and its use could even result in death (Zsupos Zoltán, 1987. 67-69., Uő., 1994. 146.). In folk medicine, it was primarily used to treat gout and rheumatism. Its magical power was also found to be suitable for love damage (e.g. Szuha Valley), and the grasshoppers of Nagybalog offered it in powdered form at wedding houses in the Great Plain (Attila Paládi-Kovács, 1966. 295.).
