Monument to Lajos Mocsáry
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
Lajos Mocsáry, writer, publicist, politician, public figure, member of parliament (1826 Kurtány -1916 Andornak), distinguished himself as an advocate for nationalities - Slovaks, Romanians, Serbs - with his writings, parliamentary speeches, and actions. His memory was forgotten early even in his homeland. The 160th anniversary of his birth was considered an appropriate occasion by the Losonc district committee of the Csemadok to permanently immortalize the memory of the distinguished native of the region. The birthplace in Kurtány near Fülek was privately owned, so a block of andesite from Sátorosbánya was erected in a nearby, clearly visible place with a bronze memorial plaque on it. People from Losonc, Fülek, Kovács, and local Csemadok participated in the work. The ceremonial unveiling of the monument took place on October 25, 1986. A headstone was also erected next to the monument, which was carved by the participants of the Abroncsospuszta cultural camp under the leadership of Katalin Nagyferenc. ; The Mocsáry monument in Kurtány is the first Hungarian monument created on the initiative of the Csemads, with their own resources, since the re-inauguration of the Kármán memorial column in Losonc in 1969.
