Mednyánszky Castle in Brunóc
Building, structure
The Mednyánszky Castle was built by Miklós Bercsényi between 1687 and 1689 and he visited it several times. On July 31, 1708, during his campaign that ended with the Battle of Trenčín, Prince Ferenc II Rákóczi also visited the castle. After the failure of the War of Independence, Brunóc ascended to the crown on the grounds of disloyalty. It was given to the German general Lindenheim as a reward, but he quickly got rid of it. After the War of Independence, it was completely transformed, losing its Renaissance character. Its defensive walls and moat were removed in the 18th century. In the 19th century, it became the property of the Mednyánszkys, who took it over in a completely dilapidated state. The transformed, now Baroque castle and the surrounding English park were nicely restored. The building was renovated in 1983. ; It cannot be visited, as it serves government purposes.
