Elizabeth Mayer

* Bratislava, October 13, 1905 – † Bratislava, November 12, 1973 / art historian, museologist, associate professor ; ; After graduating from high school in Bratislava, she studied painting and then became a student at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. At the same time, she studied art history and archaeology at the University of Bratislava. Her smooth career was interrupted in the 1950s for political reasons, and before that, in the late 1940s, she also lost her husband. In 1952, she had to leave her hometown for political reasons. Originally, she was assigned a job at the Guszona agricultural cooperative, but finally, through the intercession of her friends, she ended up in Betlér with her son and cousin, where she became the caretaker of the former Andrássy Castle and the Krasznahorka Castle. His task was to establish and process the inventory of the castle and the Krasznahorka Castle. He traveled to the castle with the gardening horse-drawn cart. In 1953, he processed textiles, porcelain, glass, furniture and ceramics, as well as graphic works. In Betlér, he did such thorough and important work in the systematization and processing of the collections that the growth book he established forms the basic documentation of the current museum. He also undertook many other tasks. In addition to his professional activities, he had the geometric floor plan of the castle and the castle developed, prepared the guide texts, and made it possible for the castle to be visited all year round. Even at that time, the two buildings already had 70 thousand visitors a year. This includes the opening of the permanent exhibition titled "The Housing Culture of the Lords in the 18th–19th Century" in the castle, and the opening of the historical exhibition in the castle. He studied the monuments of Rožňany and the works of art found in the city. He dealt with the outstanding monuments of the city and its surroundings in several studies. He wrote the articles on Rožňany in the three-volume Census of Monuments of Slovakia.
