The grave of high school teacher Andor Marcsek

Cemeteries, tombstones, grave sites

"The most important moment in the history of the past school year is the personnel changes that occurred in the teaching staff. The general meeting of the maintenance authority held on August 13, 1911, finalized the appointment of Andor Marcsek Jr., a substitute teacher, as a regular teacher, who had successfully worked at the institution in the 1909-1910 and 1910-1911 school years. The maintenance authority placed Andor Marcsek Sr. on leave for the entire duration of the 1910-1911 school year due to his illness. Since his condition did not improve until the beginning of the new school year, he extended his leave to the 1911-1912 school year and appointed Béla Jamrich, a candidate teacher who had passed the professional examination, as his replacement. Our hopes for his recovery were dashed. On December 19, 1911, our high school was plunged into mourning. On that day, he lost his sight forever. Andor Marcsek, Sr. Our deep and true grief, because for the blessed 29 1/2 years he served the Igló high school, the Protestant education system, and the Hungarian culture, because his teaching work was characterized by thorough knowledge, a loyal sense of duty, a sense of comradeship towards his fellow teachers, and a fatherly love for the youth. With never-failing enthusiasm, zeal, and enthusiasm for the noble goals of our profession, he worked for the benefit of the institute and the youth for a generation. Andor Marcsek, Sr. was born on October 30, 1856 in Késmárk, where his dear father, János Marcsek, was a teacher. He completed his high school studies at the Késmárk high school, and also took his matriculation examination there. After a year of teaching, in September 1876 he went to the Budapest University of Science, where he listened to historical and geographical lectures and at the same time He was also admitted to the teacher training institute. In May 1880, he passed the professional examination before the national teacher examination board and obtained a teaching certificate, and then worked as a teacher in Budapest for two more years. At the beginning of September 1882, he was appointed as a substitute teacher at the Igló Evangelical High School, and from June 26, 1889 until his death, he was a regular teacher at the Igló Evangelical High School. He devoted his great work ethic to our institute over many years as a tuition administrator, as a catering facility caretaker, as a keeper of the geographical toolbox and the youth library. He participated wherever public goals had to be served by utilizing and uniting social forces. He earned great merits for himself, especially around the Hungarian Carpathian Society, of which he had been the central treasurer since 1891. The recognition of his superior authorities, the love of his colleagues, and the gratitude of his former students will preserve his memory. 1911. We accompanied him to his eternal resting place on December 21, 2011. At his grave, religion teacher László Them praised his merits and expressed the feelings of the teaching staff."
