Lévárt Thermal Spa

Postcard

The famous spa in Lévárt is unfortunately in ruins today. We can only talk about its history. In the 19th century, medicinal water was found in the local cadastre. On its basis, Pál Csernus built a spa, which became nationally famous in the second half of the century. It is said that many people came with crutches, but here they had to throw away their canes and crutches, and they could go home cured. ; Dezső Fabinyi established that “the water of the Szent Antal spring in Lévárt is an earthy bicarbonate radioactive water containing a small amount of boric acid and tichum salt, as well as alum”, which is “suitable for gouty and gouty ailments, shrinkage, skin diseases, paralysis, nerve disorders, healing of bones and periosteum, curvature, residual sweat after inflammations, and hemorrhoids”. ; According to the brochure published by the owner of the spa, Tamás Plachy, in 1913, the services were also excellent and affordable: “A room for one person costs 1 crown 60 fillér and 2 crowns 50 fillér. A room for two or more people costs 3 crowns 20 fillér. The food is excellent and cheap. Meals for one day cost 4 crowns 50 fillér per person. Meals from the menu are also affordable.” There were second-class and first-class baths, staff skilled in massage and water treatment, a bowling alley. And quiet, undisturbed nature. Although “you have to pay 2 crowns per person for a week in exchange for music,” the contemporary brochure reveals that the spa offered its services primarily to guests seeking peace and quiet, and although evening entertainment was not uncommon. “From all this, it is clear that life in Lévártfürdő is so cheap that even people with a lower income can afford to vacation in this place, where they can support their health with lukewarm mineral waters and clean forest air.” (https://egykor.hu/levart/297)
