The cashier (sometimes a farm official) was a manorial official (Latin: frumentarius, German: Kastner) responsible for the administration of the estate and central court, direct management tasks, and law enforcement and administrative tasks. He was primarily responsible for receiving, preserving, and accounting for grain crops. However, at the beginning of the 19th century, he could also play a central role in the management of a nobleman's court. Accordingly, his duties included the external and internal maintenance of the nobleman's castle and the supervision of subordinate employees. His obligations also included the protection of various areas of the court or manor and the registration of its movable property. The cashier's registration and disaster protection obligations could also be supplemented by a control function regarding food, property, and the activities of subordinates.
