József Lábán, royal councilor with his wife, née Viktória Schariczer (1861–1929), with whom he had five children, lived an exemplary family life and was known as a model of duty at work. Leaving a suicide note, he ended his life by himself, but not in Bratislava, but in Budapest, where he held the position of chief inspector of railways and shipping. The tragic incident caused shock and painful condolences throughout the city.
