Karl Kuffner was born in Lundenburg (now Břeclav - Czech Republic) in 1847, and died in Vienna in 1924. From 1869 he lived in Diószeg as a large industrialist and landowner. There was a period when the sugar factory he owned in Diószeg employed more than 1,000 people. He founded a magnesite institute, and patents are also associated with his name. He received a noble title from Franz Joseph in 1896 and a baronial rank in 1904. His noble forename: diószeghy (de Diószegh). ; The inauguration of the monument took place as the conclusion of the international conference entitled The Traditions of the Sugar Industry in Diószeg, which was organized by the city government, the Pro Urbe Civic Association and the Nagyszombat County government. ; ; The bilingual memorial plaque, created by sculptor Gyula Mag, reads: ; "Karl Kuffner de Diószeghi 1847 - 1924, a pioneer of sugar production, manufacturer and inventor, lived and worked in this city."
