Krupek House

Building, structure

The Renaissance-style house is called the Krupek House. The family was a Polish family from Kraków. The owners of the house had a separate carved pew in the Church of St. James opposite the house. ; Krupek Sebestyén bought the house in 1529, it is possible that he only added the left-hand, Gothic part at that time. He may have added the right-hand part later, or he may have built two houses together. The fresco above the gate depicts the coat of arms of the Krupek family, the one on the left above depicts St. Sebastian, the one in the middle depicts St. Anne and the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus, and the one on the right depicts St. Christopher with the baby Jesus. The Protestant owners whitewashed the frescoes, and the thick layer of lime protected them until Polish restorers found them in the 1950s. It was restored then and has been in ruins ever since.
