Spear tree in memory of the Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
“169 years ago, this day reminded us that we can only move forward on the path that leads to the upliftment of the entire nation with one heart and one will.” - said Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, in his greeting to compatriots abroad on the occasion of March 15, which was read out in many settlements of the Carpathian Basin at local celebrations. ; The residents of the village of Vága in Mátyusföld also know that the Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49 is one of the cornerstones of national identity. Attila Czakó, director of the Vága Hungarian-medium Elementary School, was the originator of the idea of erecting a headstone in memory of our greatest national holiday. After the idea, teachers Árpád Varjú and Gabriella Rakoncza, together with students from the 6th and 8th grades, worked with great enthusiasm to prepare the monument in time. The wood for the headstone and the construction of its supporting structure were provided by the Vága Municipality. ; The headstone was inaugurated and then consecrated by Fr. Sándor Lengyel, the parish priest of Vága, on March 15, 2017, in a solemn setting. ; In Vága, the once pure Hungarian settlement of Mátyusföld, it was also shown that with cooperation and perseverance we can erect a worthy monument to the heroes of the 1848/49 revolution and freedom struggle.
