Mons. Gyula Koller, papal prelate, church writer, editor, was born on April 1, 1921 in Pozsony. He completed his high school studies in Pozsony, Komárom and Esztergom (1941). He then studied at the Theological College in Esztergom and then in Bratislava. He was ordained a priest in 1946. Between 1946 and 1950, he was an assistant pastor, and between 1950 and 2000, he was the parish priest of Somorja, Vajka, Boldogfa, and Pozsony Bishops. He was one of the founders of the Hungarian church publishing house Glória, and between 1990 and 2000, he was the editor-in-chief of the Catholic weekly magazine Remény. In 1948–1949, he spent several months in pretrial detention due to his activities in the defense of the Hungarian people. He also published religious articles, prayer books, and religious textbooks. In 2001, he was awarded the Silver Plaque of the Government of the Slovak Republic and in 2007, the Fraknói Vilmos Award. He died on November 26, 2015, in the 95th year of his life and the 69th year of his priesthood, in the Nádszeg Home for the Elderly.
