Statue of Zoltán Kodály

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

Zoltán Vilmos Kodály (Kecskemét, December 16, 1882 – Budapest, March 6, 1967) was a three-time Kossuth Prize-winning Hungarian composer, musicologist, music teacher, folk music researcher, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and then its president from 1946 to 1949. ; Zoltán Kodály is closely linked to the town of Galánta. After his father was appointed the head of the Galánta railway station, he lived in the town from 1885 to 1892. His work Galántai Dances, which was premiered in Budapest in 1933, is (also) a reminder of this. Perhaps it is thanks to Kodály that one of Galánta's twin towns is Kecskemét, where the great composer was born. ; The composer's statue was inaugurated in 1982 on the occasion of the centenary of his birth in the park belonging to the neo-Gothic Esterházy Castle. ; ; Related event: wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of Kodály Days.
